GOAL BONANZA FOR PIRANHAS

Prestatyn Piranhas Roller Hockey Team's Peewee (under 13's), Junior (under 16) & Youth (under 18's) teams completed their North Wales season with a final visit to close rivals Portmadog Pirates last weekend. Traditionally a close fought encounter, and with Portmadog having completed a clean sweep of wins at the home leg last autumn the matches were expected to be closely fought.

Having now established themselves as competitive throughout the North West Prestatyns best hope for a win was the Peewees squad, and so it proved with opening scores from Mathew Gordon and Jack Bancroft, closely followed by a hatrick of individual efforts from Jack Hapgood. Prestatyns netminder Alex Farrell was rarely called into action throughout the game and further scores from Robbie Lee (2) and Dylan Ford completed a dominant 8:0 rout clearly showing just how far this squad have improved during the busy season.

A closer contest was anticipated for the junior match particularly with a depleted squad, but again it was Piranhas Mike Kitchen who opened the scoring with a second from James Hapgood in the first period. A fine long  range shot from Gareth Jones, and a pair of rapid scores from Will Hapgood, complemented by exception netminding from Harry Howden, broke the Portmadog spirit and saw Piranhas enter the final period with a dominant 5:1 lead, where further scores from James Hapgood & Lawerence Pownall sealed a fine victory.

The Youth team set about emulating their younger team mates, but it soon became apparant that Piranhas were not to achive a clean sweep of victories. Despite their best efforts and scores from Christian Bagguley, Jack Ford (2) and one each for brothers Mike and Ben Kitchen, Portmadog won 10:5 in what was at times a very physical encounter in the confined sports hall.

Congratulations go to Seasons Highest points scorers Jack Ford in the youths, James Hapgood for the juniors and Jack Hapgood for the Peewees.

The club sights now move to the League playoffs at Deeside on 1 June …………where hopes are high for further success for all 3 squads
